Fore A Laugh - 101 Swing Thoughts ๐Ÿคฏ

I saw this earlier this week and couldn't help but laugh. We can all relate to this right?

101 swing thoughts

It's never good when you have 101 swing thoughts

I still catch myself doing this in the first few weeks after a lesson, trying to remember everything a coach had told me in the 1.5 seconds of my swing ๐Ÿฅด

Talking Point - Should Joggers Be Allowed On The Course? ๐Ÿ‘€

It was a great weekend of golf on both the PGA & DP World Tours, however, the main talking point was nothing to do with how anyone played. The golf police were out in full force after Sam Ryder chose to wear joggers ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

Sam Ryder Joggers

Sam Ryder wearing joggers during his final round.

It get's even more shocking....Not only was he wearing joggers, they weren't even full length. You could see his ankles!!!

Seriously though, this did seem to upset a few people. Whilst I can see why this may upset more traditional golf fans, personally I'm all for it. We're always told how golf needs to do better at "growing the game" and this is an easy way to do it. Let people turn up in comfortable attire, we're playing a sport after all. They can still be smart, noone can seriously have been looking at Sam Ryder thinking he looks like he should be lay on the sofa with a tub of ice cream. If we seriously want outsiders to see how amazing golf is, we need to make it inclusive for them. Let kids try golf for the first time in joggers. What's the harm?

Equipment Round Up - New Ping G430 Irons ๐Ÿ˜

Ping have made some great irons recently, we've taken a look at the new Ping G430 irons to see if these are great too...

So, who are these for? These are a set of game improvement irons but will probably suit a large range of golfers. We could imagine them in the bags of beginners, senior golfers and even some lower handicappers who will like the 4 & 5 irons.

Ping G430 Irons

Ping's G430 irons look great and offer increased distance.

What do Ping say about them? Ping CEO & President John Solheim says "The combined distance gains throughout the entire G430 family are like nothing we have seen from one generation of clubs to the next." Very, very bold claims. We all know how forgiving ping irons usually are, so if they do also provide these distance gains they'll be right at the top of the game improvement pile.

How do they look? Just like the G425's they're a really good looking set of clubs, beautiful in fact. They aren't too big, like many game improvement irons, and have that classic Ping shaping that we would expect.

What about the tech? The PurFlex cavity badge is the main piece of technology Ping are shouting about in these irons. Seven flex zones to the rear of the face allow more free bending, which in turn, increases ball speed. The faces are made from Hyper 17-4 stainless steel, which is 3% thinner this year, this should also contribute to faster ball speeds. Hydropearl 2.0 technology also features on the face to maintain spin in wet conditions.

Let's face it, as usual, it's so hard to know if any of the tech claims are true ๐Ÿค”.

Ping G430 Purflex Technology

Ping G430 irons feature Purflex technology.

How do they perform? From what we've seen, ball speeds and distance were up noticeably, compared to the G425s. This could be due to the amazing new technology that Ping have introduced.

However.... It could also be because the loft on these clubs are stronger than previous versions. The G430 7 iron has 29 degrees of loft, compared to the G425 7 iron that had 30 degrees of loft. This makes me feel conned slightly by the claims and results ๐Ÿ‘Ž.

In summary, despite the stronger lofts, these are a great set of game improvement irons. They look great, offer forgiveness and more distance than ever before. No matter what your handicap is, I would urge you to test these if you're in the market for a new set of irons.

On Tour - Wins For The Good Guys - Homa & McIlroy ๐Ÿ‘

PGA Tour

Last weekend saw the Farmers Insurance Open at the beautiful Torrey Pines (one of my favourites to play on a simulator). Max Homa ended up the winner here at -13, 2 shots ahead of Keegan Bradley and 3 ahead of Colin Morikawa.Spare a thought for Sam Ryder, who went into the final round with a 2 stroke lead but shot a 3 over par 75 to finish in a tie for 4th. Traditionalists will say this is karma for his 3/4 length joggers (mentioned above) ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

DP World TourThe DP World Tour saw a host of big names compete in another Rolex Series event in Dubai. The tournament was affected by heavy rain, that's right - heavy rain in Dubai, which saw the final round take place on Monday. After all the drama of McIlroy not shaking Patrick Reed's hand, it came down to these two battling it out to win the tournament. Despite Reed's seven under par final round, McIlroy ran out the victor by 1 shot. It's definitely worth watching the highlights!

Hole Of The Week - 13th Hole, Brookwater Golf and Country Club, Queensland โ›ณ๏ธ

13th Hole Brookwater Golf & Country Club

The 13th Hole Brookwater Golf & Country Club is lined with trees either side of the fairway.

This dog leg par 5 is not the hole you want to see if you're having a bad day off the tee. The fairway is lined by tall trees either side that could leave you in big trouble. From the tee, the bigger hitters can potentially look to carry some of the trees but that's definitely a risky strategy.

The small green is then protected by several bunkers making it extremely hard to get on in 2 shots. It's certainly a hole that will test your golf brain as well as your swing!
