Fore A Laugh - Practice Round At Augusta 🀣

If this is true, it is absolutely hilarious.

In 2007, apparently a man that spoke broken English showed up to the Masters with his clubs. He thought that his practice round badge allowed him to play a practice round at Augusta National.

What do you think? He genuinely thought he could play or was just trying it on? πŸ˜‚

Talking Point - How Do You Ruin A Bridge? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

The Swilcan Bridge on the 18th at St. Andrews is one of the most famous places in the whole of golf. Down the years, many, many famous moments have happened there. These include Tom Watson kissing the bridge at the 2010 Open and Jack Nicklaus giving his farewell to professional golf whilst stood on the bridge.

So they wouldn't dream of changing something so iconic, would they?

Well... sadly they did. Unfortunately, the surrounding grass gets very muddy due to the large amount of foot traffic that the bridge sees.

Swilcan Bridge Muddy

The areas surrounding Swilcan Bridge have been getting very muddy.

To be fair, it's understandable that they would want to do something about this. If they do something discrete, they won't ruin the image of the iconic bridge and will stop the nearby turf getting churned up. The issue is, they didn't get the memo about doing something discrete, instead they BUILT A PATIO at the end of the bridge!!!

The patio installed at the end of Swilcan Bridge

Now I'm all for patios, they're great to sit on whilst having a barbecue and a cold beer. They're just not that great when you're trying to visit one of golf's most iconic landmarks.

Thankfully, due to public outrage, the patio has now been removed and St. Andrews are exploring alternative options. Let's face it, all that patio would have been good for is a lucky bounce propelling my ball 40 yards further forward!

Equipment Round Up - PXG Xtreme Golf Balls πŸ€”

PXG are back with a brand-new product for 2023 - the Xtreme golf ball. This premium ball is said to be the result of nearly a decade of research and development in the golf ball category.

So, who are these for? These will be priced right at the premium end of the golf ball market, so unless your wealthy, they're for the lower handicappers out there. However, unlike many other golf ball manufacturers, they've only released one version of this ball, claiming it will cater for all player types.

What do PXG say about them? PXG claim that these will stand up against any of the golf balls at the premium end of the market, when it comes to both spin and distance. The three-piece urethane balls feature red, white, and blue layers inside them to honor the company’s U.S. military heritage. Nice touch, but I doubt many of us will ever see the inside of the ball? πŸ€”

How do they look? They look good, I'm not sure how good a ball can really look though! They carry the bold PXG logo as you would expect and an enhanced alignment aid that many golfers will like.

What about the tech? As mentioned they're three-piece urethane balls, with a unique 388 dimple pattern. This is designed to produce distance with the driver, as well as high trajectory and optimal spin with both your irons and wedges.

How do they perform? So we've not had the privilege of testing these balls yet so it would be hard for us to pass too much comment here. However, PXG did test the balls against both a Pro V1 and a Pro V1x (see below). If the numbers are to be believed it looks like a very good ball!

PXG Xtreme vs. Pro V1 & Pro V1x

In summary, these look very promising and probably will be used by a number of golfers this year who are undecided between a Pro V1 and Pro V1x. However, I'm not sure if you are a golfer that is particularly loyal to a premium ball you would switch for an "all rounder".

Tee Time Equipment Rating: 7/10 βœ… (hard to tell without testing)

On Tour - Back At Pebble Beach πŸ‘

PGA Tour

Pebble Beach has to be one of the best courses to watch on TV, there's not many courses as scenic in the world.

Despite a number of big names playing in the pro-am including Gareth Bale, Jason Bateman and Aaron Rodgers, it was an old favourite who got the headlines. Justin Rose (-18) managed a 3 shot victory over Brandon Wu. It will be interesting to see if he can propel himself back into the Ryder Cup team after this win!

DP World TourThe DP World Tour stayed in the UAE last week, with the tournament being held at Al Hamra Golf Club. It was a much lower profile field compared to the previous week in Dubai.Daniel Gavins (-17) won by 1 shot from Zander Lombard and Alexander BjΓΆrk. This was the Englishman's 2nd DP World Tour win from the 98 tournaments he's played.

Hole Of The Week - 10th Hole, Sunningdale Golf Club, United Kingdom ⛳️

10th Sunningdale Golf Club

10th hole Sunningdale Golf Club

This par 4 really is a stunning golf hole. It's played from an elevated tee and the fairway is lined with both trees and heather. Several bunkers make it an extremely tricky tee shot, so you better hope you're getting on with your driver.

What makes this hole even better? There's a stunning view of it from the halfway house, so you can enjoy watching the group in front whilst stuffing your face! 🌭
